What has my attention this week?

Reading: Go Direct! by Jim Kukral
I’m kind of hard up for good books this week, mostly because I’m right at the beginning of several (including Kafka’s posthumous novel Trial), but this is the best of them so far. I grabbed Kukral’s book during its launch (on Joanna Penn’s recommendation, I think) and am only just now getting around to it. Its message of eliminating the middlemen and gatekeepers whenever possible is one for creators of all stripes. So far, it isn’t offering anything radically novel, but it’s a rah-rah reminder of the entrepreneur-empowering times we live in.
Watching: Kid Snippets
There are only about four YouTube channels I subscribe to. This is one of them. Kid Snippets offers candid conversations between kids—reenacted by adults. Cracks me up every single week. This is probably my all-time favorite.
Listening: The Eternal Knot by Adiemus
Karl Jenkins’s brain baby Adiemus is New Age music to the hilt. Mesmerizing (if usually nonsensical) vocals and aggressively buoyant rhythms and melodies, the music is both beautiful and empowering. This album is my favorite (and, coincidentally, it has the prettiest cover). It’s more Celtic-themed than most of his work, and “St. Declan’s Drone” is worth the price of admission alone.
Eating: Boom Chicka Pop Sweet and Salty Kettle Corn
Okay, I admit it. The packaging totally pulled me in. Purple popcorn bag! And that name! (How can you possibly beat that name?) I ended up buying the bag because the ingredients were actually pretty great: vegan, kosher, non-GMO, and no corn syrup. I’ll buy it again because it tastes amazingly awesome for bagged popcorn.
Using: Momentum Dash Browser Extension
I think I stumbled onto this Chrome app via Neil Patel’s blog (or maybe ProBlogger?). Instead of the standard Google “new tab” page, which I never used, this app offers you a gorgeous photo every day, an inspiring quotation, the current time and weather, and the ability to search and record your to-do list. Absolutely love it.
I have never seen this YouTube channel before. It’s hilarious! Doubly funny because you’re picturing the kids doing it, while watching the adults flawlessly interpret it. Priceless!
Occasionally, they’ll offer behind the scenes videos. They’re hilarious too.
I adore Boom Chicka Pop! I am more inclined to salty crunchy snacks than sweets, their kettle corn hits both spots beautifully.
My current stuck-in-head song is “Fear” by Pauley Perrette and Stop Making Friends. She is the actress who plays Abby on NCIS, and she wrote the song for the NCIS soundtrack – it’s lovely.
It’s always fun when actors you like turn out to be awesome singers too!
Love your blog post!!! 🙂 I will have to try that popcorn!!!
It’s delish! I’m just finishing off the bag. It keeps really well too, without getting stale after you open it.
Another cool extension: PTT 5.18 Enables right-click posting of content to Tumblr
I’m not a Tumblr user. But that does sound handy!
I love Adiemus as well. I also love David Arkenstone. (Similar.)
I’m reading Station Eleven. Good novel thus far.
I’m eating (only a few!) Trader Joe’s GF Pumpkin Macarons.
Cuteness overload on instagram: wolfgang2242. Adorable photos.
Listening to a podcast lesson from Liberty Classroom: How freedom shaped the west
Have a great week!
Hadn’t heard of Arkenstone. I’ll have to check him out! Thanks!
Ah Kid Snippets are the best!! 🙂
Yay, another fan!
Kid snippets are amazing! I love the driver’s ed and Josh Groban ones especially 🙂 As for a song, hmm, I listen to music constantly so it is everchanging, I guess right now it would be Farther Along by Josh Garrels. I really enjoy reading your blog posts!
Ah, yes, those are two of my favorite episodes as well. The Josh Groban one had me cracking up for days–which was dangerous at the time, because I’d just had a tooth out.
Song stuck in my head = No More Tears, Ozzy Osborne
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? 😉
Definitely a good thing! Always been a fan of Ozzy.
The soundtrack to Gladiator. Can I get an amen? 😉
That’s my all-time favorite soundtrack. So amen and amen!
