The Big Secret I’ve Never Shared Online Before

The Big Secret I've Never Shared Online Before

Hah. I knew that headline would make you look twice. 😀

Now before I pay off with the punchline, let me explain. Around here, November means two things:

1. It means sayonara to even the last dribs of warm weather.

K.M. Weiland Mad About Winter

2. And it means my birthday (which I always say like Otis Campbell).

White Gift Box with Blue Satin Bow

These two things kinda even each other out, wouldn’t you say?

So What’s the Big Secret?

Okay, so it’s not a legitimate secret as such, but it’s not common knowledge: my age.

Apparently, it’s something quite a few people are curious about, because it keeps popping up in my site stats’ “top searches” (and, once, memorably, in my critique partner’s site stats as well–go figure).

Today I’m finally going to do the big reveal and admit to my age. But first let’s do this the fun way.

How Old Do You Think I Am?

To discover the answer, stick your most honest guess in the poll widget below. The answer will show up after you submit your answer. Winner gets … respect. (But I’ll make it up to you on Thursday when I’m throwing an honest-to-goodness prize drawing. Promise.)

And now you know!

Let’s chat! What’s your favorite (and least favorite) thing about November? Tell me in the comments!

  1. Least Favourite: November in Singapore is hot and wet, 93-95 F thundery showers that do not cool anything just raise the humidity thro’ the roof.
Favourite: School holidays start and I get chance to see more of my children and grand-children

  2. I have my two brothers birthday in this month. No cold in Malaysia but lots of rain, thunder is storming outside as I am writing this. (scrivener has spoiled me too much I never custom capitalize the first words of sentences anymore, that’s why I have to edit my comments a lot these days :/ )
And, my guess was twenty-eight. But I was in the right category that’s why I am also the winner. 😀
Last but not least, it’s fun to know that people even search it. In my homeland, we still follow this rule “never ask a woman her age and a man his salary”. Lol
But a secret from my sensei, there was just no chance that I could skip this post. 😛

My sister lives in Missouri. Seems like the warm weather usually lasts just a little bit longer out there.

    Ahhh — Happy Birthday!!!

November 1 was my birthday. Truly, November birthdays make up for cold weather “up north,” but here in Florida they work hard to chill the temp down to the 70s and 80s.

  5. First off, I have to laugh that anyone would think you are between 18-20! I know we all wish we still are, but come on! Haha. As far November goes, I love the fall season. So I love seeing the red and orange tree leaves and those sunny autumn days where the sun’s going down and the air smells crisp and “fall-y”. But, I don’t like the introduction of snow too early! I wish snow would always come at the end of November…to intro us all into December. Unfortunately, I am no weather man and can not control when it comes. When does the snow usually hit in North Dakota?

    • K.M. Weiland says:

You’d be surprised! When I was in Hawaii last year, I had three people in the same day ask me if I was a minor. :p

  6. Happy, happy birthday KM! God’s blessing on you and yours on this special day! 🙂

As for November, I’m excited about one thing: Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving = food and food = happy! My two brothers’ birthdays are in this month, but honestly, Thanksgiving is the highlight!! Thanks, like this post….

November faves: My birthday. Thanksgiving. We can FINALLY turn the a/c off! Nanowrimo!!!

  8. Best thing about November: Sunshine, when we get to see it.

    Worst thing about November: Snow.

  9. Favorite part of November? NaNoWriMo! Hands down the most amazing thing that ever happened to me in November.

  10. Ha ha! I knew it! 😉 I guessed right.

I love November, and fall weather. I love the good food that typically comes with Thanksgiving. And I love the excuse to drink more hot drinks! Happy birthday, my friend!

  11. Happy Birthday! Writers some in all shapes, sizes, and AGES it seems. I read you blog often, and I’ll be 85 in January and just had my third book published -HAPPY! http://www.amazon.com/Clear-Water-Neva-Brown-ebook/dp/B016QNZN42/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1446576466&sr=1-1&keywords=by+clear+water

  12. Happy Birthday!!!!

November is my favorite month. It’s my birthday too…on the 15th. I love everything about November!!! 🙂

    • K.M. Weiland says:

Hah. When I was young I always thought it was totally unfair that my brothers got to have birthdays in the summer when there was fun stuff to do. 😛

  13. Happy birthday. You have knowledge beyond your years.

  14. Oh, now I know we are almost the same age, cool! :p Happy bday, have an awesome day!
What I love about this month; finally some heat and vacations come close! And holidays too! Woohoo!

  15. What do I like about November on Vancouver Island? It’s the same as December, January & February! Least favorite? Chances of snow Christmas day is pretty much 0. Happy Birthday!

  16. The surprise inside worked well for Cracker Jack all these years…. and it pulled me in amazingly quick (…wonder if that’s what it feels like to be sucked into a black hole?)

Anyway Happy Birthday! this month… and a great thing about the cold weather is you can enjoy fires in the fireplace and bundling up. Here in SoCal, never really gets that cold… well, on rare occasion gets below freezing overnight… I had to scrape frost off the windshield once. 😀

    • K.M. Weiland says:

I loved Cracker Jack when I was young. But the prizes were always disappointing. Usually stickers or something like that.

      • Here too, but I was of the generation where there was still some play value in the surprise, a tiny toy plane, car, ring or joke book. Did witness the transition to stickers and fewer peanuts. Sobering lesson in profit margins.

  17. It’s my birthday month too!

But KM, you can’t have overlapping ranges on a poll…cmon. Rookie polling mistake

  18. Happy Birthday Katie! (I guessed right.)

  19. Least favorite: Here in Maine, you just KNOW you’re going to see snow (even here on the coast) by the end of the month — even if just a few inches.

Most favorite: We have lots of weather coming up that’s just perfect for staying inside in comfy-cozy clothing, sipping hot chocolate, and WRITING. (See what I did there?)

  20. I live in NZ, so the weather is supposed to be getting warmer…but today I think the sun forgot. November means looking forward to BBQs and late evenings outside with friends. Kids laughing and playing, bees buzzing in my garden, and a whole lot of baby birds everywhere.

  21. Least favorite: The year is almost gone! What I’ve done all this time?
Most favorite: Christmas is coming and the leaves begin to fall!

I like your poll, always doing the stuff in a fun way 🙂

  22. Lorna G. Poston says:

Favorites: fall colors, crisp air, Thanksgiving.

Least Favorite: the first snow of the season could—and often does—happen this month
