The Big Secret I’ve Never Shared Online Before

The Big Secret I've Never Shared Online Before

Hah. I knew that headline would make you look twice. 😀

Now before I pay off with the punchline, let me explain. Around here, November means two things:

1. It means sayonara to even the last dribs of warm weather.

K.M. Weiland Mad About Winter

2. And it means my birthday (which I always say like Otis Campbell).

White Gift Box with Blue Satin Bow

These two things kinda even each other out, wouldn’t you say?

So What’s the Big Secret?

Okay, so it’s not a legitimate secret as such, but it’s not common knowledge: my age.

Apparently, it’s something quite a few people are curious about, because it keeps popping up in my site stats’ “top searches” (and, once, memorably, in my critique partner’s site stats as well–go figure).

Today I’m finally going to do the big reveal and admit to my age. But first let’s do this the fun way.

How Old Do You Think I Am?

To discover the answer, stick your most honest guess in the poll widget below. The answer will show up after you submit your answer. Winner gets … respect. (But I’ll make it up to you on Thursday when I’m throwing an honest-to-goodness prize drawing. Promise.)

And now you know!

Let’s chat! What’s your favorite (and least favorite) thing about November? Tell me in the comments!

  1. Happy birthmonth to us! Mine is 11/11 and I turned 30 last year. Hope thirty treats you as well as it did me! My favorite age to date. 😀

  2. Favorite thing- Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. Thing I like least-we’re still not getting any rain. We need a WET November here in CA. Oh, for what it’s worth, thirties were the best decade of my life, and many friends my age (53) say the same. So here’s to a great upcoming decade for you.

  3. You look youthful enough to be in your late 20s, but based on your success and accomplishments I was inclined to say early 30s.

  4. I got it right! (I put you at the lower end of the spectrum though.) I love the grumpy Katie picture. Happy birthday month! :o)

  5. I love the cool and damp of November’s air,
Colorful leaves that dance without care.
Snuggling under covers and bright, roaring fires,
Delectable eats and Black Friday buyers.
Gathering to feast, our family and friends,
Football and fun, the bears in their dens.
Katie was born, let’s all give thanks!
She’s a lover a words – take that to your banks!

Happy 3-0 Kate – It’s going to be a great decade!

  6. My least favorite thing about November is the weather is getting colder, EVEN here in Arizona (Flagstaff had snow last night). My favorite thing is getting together with family!!!

  7. I guessed right! It’s a little crazy thinking about it, but I still view myself as a kid, so when I learn my favorite authors aren’t that much older than I am, it weirds me out lol.

I live in Kentucky, where, like many other Southeastern and Midwest states, we get snow, tornadoes, and 80 degree weather all in the same week, especially when the seasons change. Thankfully it’s been pretty calm this year, but I’ll try not to speak too soon.

I love November because it means Christmas is almost here! But I am not a Buddy the Elf that hangs everything out as soon as Halloween is over. I want to enjoy Christmas when it gets here, not two months before!!!

I also like NaNoWriMo. Not that I’ve ever participated, but I love seeing other authors on Facebook and Twitter talking about their WIPs and being so productive. It inspires me to keep going. 🙂

Hah. Honestly, I feel exactly the same way. Sometimes I’m driving down the street, and I’m like, “Wow, I’m an adult.” :p

“Sometimes I’m driving down the street, and I’m like, “Wow, I’m an adult.” ”

Oh, I’m not the only one?? Haha, that makes me feel a little bit better about myself! XD

I have that same feeling. November seems to be a slightly better time for me to get my writing done than other times of the year. 🙂

Happy (very belated) birthday, KM! It turns out we’re not too far apart in age– I turned 32 in December. 🙂

  8. Try to guess a woman’s age? A good way to get a punch in the snoot!

Oops! I didn’t realize I needed to turn word-wrapping off. Could you please repost my comment? Here it is again, without word-wrapping:

30? Really?? I did guess the correct category but, to be honest, I thought you were a couple of years older. That was a compliment. Ok, it was left-handed, but still a compliment. 🙂 I remember turning 30 and it felt suspiciously like 29. I’ve never figured out why.

Favorite thing about November. Hmm. My mind goes blank at the very question. I feel like I should say “Thanksgiving” or “Christmas is coming soon” but I got nuthin’.

Least favorite thing: the weather. I’m originally from NYC and I detest the cold. Six years ago I moved down to Florida. Problem solved.

Wait, I just thought about a good thing about November! I get to ride my motorcycle without getting rained on, every single afternoon, like in the summer.

Come to think of it, summer used to be my favorite season because, up north, that was the only time I could really enjoy riding. In Florida, the summer heat doesn’t bother me but the rain, ugh! What do you know . . . November might be good for something after all.

Besides your birthday, of course. 😀

Hah. This made me laugh. Yeah, I swear every winter that I’m going to move to Arizona. Maybe someday I’ll put my money where my mouth is.

I had forgotten about this site, and missed this post until now. In the meantime, you did mention how old you were when Star Wars I came out, putting you at late ’85/early ’86.

With other weaker clues before then, I had guessed a range of 28 to 36, with the most likely in the middle of that, 31-33

Whaaaaat I thought you were like 20!!!

  13. Beginner Novelist - Sarah E. Gabor says:

You. Look. So. Young!!! And so cute ❤️

  14. I thought (and still think) you to be 25. But that poll that should show your age has disappeard, so I still don’t know the real answer!
You don’t have to tell you age of course. Really, you don’t.
Btw, in what year were you born?

  15. Roger S Greene says:

Well age is just a number, I am twice your number and glad you are such a good writer willing to share your knowledge. Keep it up. I am happy to have found your books and your outline software to help me to write my first book.

    Thanks <
